Tilapia is one of the aquaculture commodities that have high economic value. However, the tilapia market in Indonesia is dominated by the local market. Tilapia market conditions are oversupplied. In W47, the farm-gate price of tilapia fell to a level of USD 1.21/kg (IDR 19k/kg), while the operational cost of cultivating tilapia was USD 1.19/kg (IDR 18K/kg). On the other hand, the export market for Indonesian tilapia is not that big. Many fish farmers are looking for a new market, such as the possibility for the export market to increase the selling price of tilapia, which is getting lower.
