Tanzanian Pigeon Pea Prices Remain High Despite Low Indian Market Prices

Tanzanian pigeon pea prices remain high despite the prices in the Indian market, Tanzania’s main export market, remaining low. This is mainly because the 2022 Tanzanian pigeon pea production was low due to shortage of rains during the second half of the crop growth cycle. The farmgate price of pigeon peas in Dar es Salaam in W39 was USD 579/MT for Dodoma origin and USD 588/MT for Arusha origin. This results in a CFR Nhava Sheva, Mumbai price of about USD 680-700/MT.
