On the territory of Tajikistan, warm weather that started in February caused massive early apricot flowering. However, frosts that came by last week of February caused significant damage to orchards in the Central and Northern parts of Tajikistan. On average, in Tajikistan, up to 30% of apricot orchards were affected. The remaining 70% of the gardens are still in question because the flowering and pollination process is still ongoing. Mainly affected were yellow, mid-season apricot varieties, in particular the “boboi” and “mirsanchali” varieties, which are sold in the high price segment as dried fruits.
Spring frosts directly affected the March price of dried fruits. In particular, the cost of those varieties of apricot, which are affected, have already risen by more than 50%, and somewhere it reaches 100%. Further price fluctuations will be clear only in April when the danger of another frost passes.
