Prices of Turkish and Indian-Origin Onions More Than Doubled in the UAE in the Past Two Weeks

The prices of Indian and Turkish-origin onions in the UAE increased by 133% in 2 weeks, from USD 0.30/kg in W42 to USD 0.70/kg in W43–W44. One of the major reasons for surging onion prices is that a large volume of onions of Indian origin are being re-exported to Saudi Arabia, where demand is high at the moment.
