The total pear production in Hebei, China, is estimated to have decreased by more than 20% in the 2021-2022 season. As a consequence of the weak market in the 2020-2021 season, many fruit farmers in China abandoned pear production to plant grains or other crops. The price this season stood at USD 0.33-0.60/kg (RMB 2.4-4.4/kg) compared to the 2021-2022 crop, when the price stood at USD 0.18-0.33/kg (RMB 1.3-2.4/kg), meaning the price almost doubled.
