The supply of the fresh sea crab meat for the processed crab meat products still relies on the wild catch sources. There are some small traditional farms but efficient breeding & cultivation techniques at a commercial scale are not yet available. For the crab meat processing industries in Indonesia, the dependency on the wild catch source is insufficient in terms of supply consistency and opens the risk of price volatility. The current high demand also contributes to overfishing which has a risk to the ecosystem and environment.
