Ghana shifted from commercial production of sesame seed to maize in the early 2000's as local farmers did not have access to export and local consumption was low.
For Ghana and Burkina Faso, the 2020/2021 new crop production commenced in mid June/early July in several production areas and harvest is expected to commence from October through November. The processing is highly dependent on the weather conditions; If rains continue in September then harvest will be delayed till December. dry weather conditions are needed to get he best moisture content for export.
