There is high demand in the local market for coconut water this year. According to the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech), people who are getting more health conscious are driving the worldwide demand for natural health products like coconut water. Drinking coconut water benefits the health by strengthening the body, reducing fatigue, and taking care of the normal heart function. There was a pilot testing of Coconut Water Processing Enterprise in selected areas of the Philippines to establish a holistic picture of the requirements for the successful adoption of the technology to extract, process and package coconut water. The project was led by PHilMech and conducted from 2017 to 2019. The aim was to determine the technical, financial, operational and management requirements needed to establish and operate a village-level coconut water processing system developed by PHilMech as an integrated component of the traditional copra and virgin coconut oil (VCO) processing system. The project was funded by the Bureau of Agricultural Research through its National Technology Commercialization Program. As of date, coconut farmers are encouraged to venture into the export of coconut water to be able to help them raise their income and also economic growth in the country.
