Presenting the results in the sector, the National Vine and Wine Office from Moldova remarked that export volumes decreased by 11.7% in 2021, totaling only 120.7M liters of wines, sold both bottled and in bulk. However, due to higher average prices over the respective period, the value of exports increased by almost 10% to about USD 141M.
The countries from the region, including Romania, Poland, Czechia, and Belarus, were among the main export markets. However, in the top 10 export destinations were countries like the UK, China, and the USA. Perspectives also look good since a good harvest of grapes in 2021 allowed Moldovan wineries to produce 171 mil liters of wine, almost 70% more than in the previous season.
