Before the war in Ukraine, Russian Federation was the final destination for about 98% of Moldovan apple exports. Present crisis made exports to Russia very difficult and risky. Thus, from an inventory of about 110,000 tons of apples at the moment when the war started, Moldovan exporters already succeeded to export over 13,000 tons on alternative markets. The main export destination was the European Union; however more than 2,000 tons have been exported over long distances by sea. For the first time, apples produced in Moldova reached to their buyers in Germany, Kuwait, Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan.
