Pecan nut harvesting season in the Mexican northern state of Chihuahua was expected to begin in Mid-October, but has been delayed for an entire month and is now expected to start by Mid-November due to rains and high humidity in the area. Due to the fact that humidity affects the quality of pecan nuts during harvest, producers are not able to harvest at the moment and suppliers are not willing to pay a selling price until harvest actually begins. Currently, high prices of pecan nuts from this area are speculated due to high demand from Chinese buyers and European buyers, paired with expected lower production from northern Mexico and USA.
