Redfish Fishing and Exports in Germany: Quality and Price Comparisons to Norway and Iceland

Portuguese importers are satisfied with the quality of Redfish (Sebastes mentella or Sebastes marinus) imported from Germany compared to Norwegian imports due to their strong focus on fish handling quality. In W15, the price for HG Redfish from Germany, which is block frozen and has MSC certification, is around USD 2.91/kg delivered in Portugal for mixed sizes. This is slightly lower than the price for similar specifications in Norway, which ranges from USD 2.96-3.07/kg delivered in Portugal. Iceland is another major exporter of Redfish in Europe, but with a higher price, ranging from USD 3.18-3.40/kg. However, the quality of Icelandic Redfish is well-known and highly regarded in the European market.
