Review of Avocado Maturity & Post Harvest Handling Practices

Kenya is one of the leading exporters of avocado. However, there have been numerous complaints about poor quality of the fruits exported to key markets in the European union and United Arab Emirates(UAE). To address the issue, the horticulture industry has inspected the avocado dry matter percentage(DM%) to 24% for Fuertes and Hass varieties, pursuant to provisions of the 2020 Part III Paragraphs 18 and 19. In addition, harvesting and post-harvest handling may conform to good handling practices. This is to improve fruit quality aspects in line with global market requirements.
