The ban on exporting fine rice varieties in India has led to a steady price increase during W37, with prices rising by USD 4.80 to 6 per 100 kilograms (kg) (INR 400 to 500/100 kg) in the last two months and USD 12.03/100 kg (INR 1,000/100 kg) in 2022. The price increase is due to farmers' unwillingness to cultivate the fine variety and a large gap between demand and supply. Millers, who stocked up on fine varieties, have made good profits, with prices now rising to USD 60.16 to 72.19/100kg (INR 5,000 to 6,000/100kg). The lack of price fixation by authorities has further exacerbated the situation.
