The Price of Chilean Salmon and Trout Increase by 37% YoY in the First Half of 2022

According to figures provided by InfoTrade, Chilean salmon and trout export sales during the first six months of 2022 totaled USD 3.2B, representing a 32.7% YoY increase. The United States remains the largest customer of Chilean salmon, where a total of USD$1.5 billion worth of salmon shipped during the first six months of 2022, signifying a 37.5% YoY growth.

The average price of salmon and trout exports in January-June 2022 increased by 37% compared to the same period in 2021, reaching a price of USD 9.81/kg. The highest sales price for salmon and trout exports is observed in the United States at USD 12.66/kg, representing a 32% increase YoY. On the other hand, shipments of salmon and trout during the first six months of 2022 totaled 330.2K tons, representing a 3.2% YoY decrease in volume.

Chile exports salmon to over 70 countries, but 98% of exports get delivered to 25 countries. During the first six months of 2022, the countries that increased their YoY export demand the most are Indonesian 815%, South Korea with 572%, Singapore with 171%, China with 141%, the Philippines with 106%, Spain with 104%, Thailand with 80%, and Taiwan with 77%. On the contrary, due to the complications of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the salmon demand in Russia dropped by 42% during the first half of 2022.
