Sea freight costs from Turkey to the United States quadrupled in 2021

The shipping costs for sea freight from Turkey to the United States have quadrupled compared to the previous year. The United States is one of the main export destinations for Turkish olive oil exporters and the price of 1 container from Izmir to New York has increased from USD 1,500 in 2020 to USD 6,000 currently. Additionally, the shipping costs from Izmir, Turkey to the west coast destinations such as Oakland have increased fivefold in the same period from around 2,200 USD to 11,000 USD.
