Could Seedless Avocados Boost Avocado Demand For EU Consumer?

With increasingly complex avocado market conditions, suppliers and buyers are asking themselves: "what will be the breakthrough in the avocado market?". Avocado supply is outpacing demand in Europe and the UK. Year after year, it is becoming more and more difficult for suppliers to sell global production into Europe at fair prices.

A seedless avocado could be the answer to these bad market conditions. If consumers adopt and enjoy the seedless avocado experience, the proportionately small production of seedless avocados would create a market situation where demand would outpace supply and prices would increase.

The seedless avocado is namely produced when an avocado flower remains un-pollinated, hereby stunting further growth of the avocado. A percentage of all avocados produced today are naturally seedless, due to natural non-pollination events. If need be, the production of seedless avocados could be increased by artificial means.

Luxury retailer Marks & Spencers in the UK has piloted this seedless avocado in stores, they are being marketed as a "cocktail avocado", easy to use for guacamole and snacking. This name originates from the avocado's precariously small size.
The bottom line is, that an extra avocado category in stores, whether it be this seedless avocado or something else, would be a part of the solution to solving the avocado oversupply issues in the EU.
