Entering the end of 2022, the price of cardamom in Indonesia returned to normal to the level of the pre-pandemic price point. The selling price at the local trader level skyrocketed by 4 to 5 times since the beginning of the pandemic, and suddenly fell back to the previous price level in November & December 2022. This sudden change in price is due to the abundance of supply while demand from the export market has returned to normal. Many collectors, local traders, and exporters are suffering losses because they still have inventory purchased at high prices. Cardamom exports are mainly aimed at China and South Asian countries.
