Malaysians now regularly import coconuts from Indonesia to meet local demand. This is because the country's coconut production decreased by almost 10% between 2010 and 2017. Coconut productivity also decreased from 7.1 million tons per hectare to 6.3 million tons per hectare. This condition is due to many factors, including the reduction of the growing area, the aging of the trees, the climatic changes, and the lack of seeds. Although the government always encourages more coconut crops, this situation causes farmers' earnings and incomes to decline.
