The heatwave that struck the US Pacific Northwest in Week 26 has severely limited the cherry supply out of Washington, the largest cherry producer in the country. Given strong domestic pricing, suppliers sell to the US first and internationally second, causing very limited availability for key Asian export markets. Export cherries for Korea are particularly short as the country requires fumigation resulting in an even smaller supply pool.
