The skipjack tuna (species: Katsuwonus pelamis) has been in shortage in recent weeks during Ramadan fasting month in Indonesia. The catches dropped significantly due to fishing activity slowing in the fasting month. Local canned tuna processors are competing to secure the already limited raw materials for their production, thus pushing the price up to USD 1.63/kg on size 1-1.8kg and USD 1.95/kg on size 1.8 kg+ for frozen whole round skipjack purse seine catch around Java area.
