The slaughter of chickens in the second quarter of 2020 had the worst quarterly result since the second quarter of 2018, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). According to the organization, 1.41 billion heads were slaughtered between April and June.

The result also represents a decrease of 1% in relation to the same period of 2019 and a decrease of 6.8% in comparison with the first quarter of 2020. The agency points out that the effects of the COVID - 19 pandemic, such as temporary plant shutdowns due to contagion, impacted the production of slaughterhouses.
