A large volume of illegal pigs has been smuggled into Thailand since January 2022 as frozen pork, packed in a cold storage container, harming Thai pig farmers. As a result, it affected pig prices, reduced the sales volume of live pigs on all farms, and increased the risk that could lead to the collapse of the Thai pork industry. Most of the smuggled pork is from the EU and the US, which experiences a widespread outbreak of ASF that has affected more than 1M Thai pigs. Moreover, red meat accelerators are also used freely in pig farming in those countries, which is dangerous for consumers.
