Fuel price increases are making farmers in South African concerned about an increase in production cost. Diesel is an important resource during the planting season, so farmers would have no option but to recoup the increase in production cost by raising the farmgate prices. Transport costs will also increase, especially for grain transport as the logistics value-chain will also be affected by the increase. The current price per liter for diesel is USD 1.173, with a projected rise of USD 0.09 in November.
