The export volume of South African grapes for the 2022/23 season experienced an 11% drop YoY. During the 2021/22 season, 75,182,606 cartons (4.5kg) of grapes were exported, whereas in the 2022/23 campaign, 63,514,205 cartons (4.5kg) were exported. The reason for the decrease is primarily due to the challenges that producers faced, with adverse weather, logistical challenges, and electricity outages contributing to this decline. In addition, producers opted to focus on quality rather than quantity/volumes during this season and deliver better-quality fruit to markets.
