Due to the global shortage of soybean supply, prices of tofu and most household products made of soybean increased dramatically/ Some tofu producers even stopped production in protest due to the inability to make a profit with current soybean prices. Prices of soybean have risen to USD 0.8 per kg, which is a spike of 27% from their latest prices. As a result, tofu producers must increase their selling prices up to 80% from their original prices. In a small town like Banyumas and Cilacap, where the tofu has usually produced, the demand for soybean is 15 -20 MT per day. However, due to the low supply, they can afford to produce efficiently as fixed production cost remains the same.
