For early fruit, volumes will be limited in general. However, South African Nadorcott stocks will still be present in Europe when Spain starts its season, so there will be no lack of fruit in the market.
Satsuma: UK, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria are the main markets. Iwasaki is harvested in September, Okitsu in W39-43 and Owari in W43-50. The harvest estimate is a 30% decrease in Okitsu and almost a 50% decrease in Owari. Commercial sizes are mostly 1x-1-2-3.
Orogros/Oronules: Harvested from W39 until the beginning of November. A normal harvest is expected but new plantations that come into production could push volumes up. In the Castellón area, sizes will be small-medium (2-3-4) due to lack of thinning in summer. If 1x-1-2 sizes are needed, attention should be turned to the Huelva area.
Marisol: Each consecutive season there is less production with a tendency to phase out this variety. Germany is its main market.
Arrufatina: Harvest is mid-October to the beginning of November. Volumes are always limited and during the 2022/23 campaign, there will be even less fruit due to poor fruit set. The visual is perfect with commercial sizes 1x-1-2. However, if the fruits are harvested while they still display colour in the field, there may be issues with premature drying or dehydration, affecting their quality and market suitability.
Mioro/Loretina: Harvest is W43-46. The best early clementine varieties in terms of appearance and flavour. Mioro always produces small, medium calibres. Loretina offers more commercial sizes but both varieties have very limited production volumes.
Clemenules: Harvest is from beginning November to middle January. Less fruit expected in the 2022/23 season which means bigger sizes. The Castellón and Tarragona regions do not suffer from drought thanks to abundant spring rains. Commercial sizes are 1x-1-2-3 with low quantities of small sizes (4 and 5). Citrus mealybug did not affect fruit too much, but the spider has done damage in fields so more category 2 fruit will be on the market.
Clemenvilla (Nova): Harvest is from December to January. Harvest volumes are normal and sizes are always commercial. Cold is the key when harvesting to prevent the fruit from staining. The production area is wide, from the South to Castellón, but this variety's days are numbered since the appearance of the tangold variety.
Nadorcott: Harvest is from January to April. The 2023 season expects a 50% lower production volume due to last year's large harvest. Also, since there is a lot of fruit that was not harvested or harvested very late, those orchards will not produce fruit this season. The Tangold is harvested 2 weeks before the Nadorcott. Production continues to grow for the Tangold variety
Leanri: Harvest from January to February. The production volumes are growing each season. The taste and visuals are spectacular with commercial sizes.
Orri: Harvest is from mid February to April. Harvest volumes across Spain are expected around 60,000MT, similar to the production in Israel. The trees always produce small-medium sizes (2-3-4).
Ortanique: Harvest is from February to April. Producers continue to uproot orchards and after last year's disaster with many fruits not even harvested, it is certain that there will be less production in the 2022/23 season. Spain mainly focus sales of this variety overseas and for Europe.
