Hayward kiwi production in the Iberian zone (Spain and Portugal) for the 2022 campaign is expected to be similar to the previous campaign, which was around 50,000MT. This is far below the expected production in Italy of around 310,000MT and Greece at around 350,000MT. Greece is currently the second largest producer of kiwi fruit in the world, just behind New Zealand.

The Iberian kiwi differentiates itself from the rest of European production by its high quality, which is why its price level is usually above the rest. Due to the drought and heat waves experienced in 2022 and slow pollination, the calibre of Iberian kiwis is expected to be smaller on average compared to last campaign, and a little more heterogeneous in the field.

In the Iberian zone, most of the quantities are expected to be located between the 27-36 calibres. A surplus of small sizes in Europe in general (calibres 33-45) is expected in the 2022 campaign which is a perfect opportunity for punnet programs. The first shipments of Spanish Hayward kiwis to export markets are expected to depart approximately 25 October. The best period to export overseas and guarantee quality will be between weeks 42/43 to 2/3.
