Spanish Lettuce Campaign Expected to Experience Shortage in W3-W4

The Spanish lettuce harvest is currently 2-3 weeks advanced. However, due to temperature variations, it is expected to experience a shortage between W3-W4 of 2023 after which the situation is expected to stabilize. The average selling price during the first two months of the campaign from Nov-Dec, 2022 was around USD 5.37/box EXW, higher than the USD 4.62/box of the previous campaign. However, this price difference has not been enough to absorb the rising production costs of water, energy, and fertilizer. Therefore, despite the increase in the sales price YoY, the return to the farmer is lower.
