Since W51 of 2022, Indonesia has seen extreme weather in both the north and south of the Java Sea up to the Sumbawa Sea. Fishermen have not been able to catch octopus for a few weeks due to the stormy sea leading to intense price competition among octopus processors/suppliers in the surrounding area. The amount of raw giant octopus material available each week has decreased from December 2022's 9K kg/week to 5K kg/week. The capture of giant octopuses is anticipated to increase to up to 7K kg every week starting in W3, and the average catch size is 1-2kg per octopus, comprising up to 60% of the size distribution.
