Sugar Supply in Brazil May Decrease during the Second Half of the Year

The rain season in Colombia in 2022 began in February instead of March-April and is forecasted to last until October-November. This weather phenomenon, called La Niña, may affect global sugar prices. The extended rain season and intensity of the rain, or La Niña, is caused by the Pacific Ocean's cooling, which will directly affect sugar availability from sugar mills. Extracting sugar cane in the dampened fields is nearly impossible using the current machinery, and manual labor is not an alternative due to the labor shortage. Therefore, most mills are not making new deals but will use the production and stocks to supply previous contracts.
