In the past year the area of cultivated land dedicated to sugar beet has increased from 500 ha to 2,000 ha. This massive increase reflected the optimism of producers and the strong demand. However, due mainly to the impact of the pandemic on the hospitality sector, the new campaign is generating a lot of worries to producers, who believe this will be a bad year. Producers are hoping that prices are kept at €40/tonne as this would be the breaking point for recovering their expenses. However, they are not certain this will happen, and many are bracing for a bad year.
