Currently, In Hau Giang province - the largest raw material sugarcane production region in the Mekong Delta - the price harvested sugarcane is only 0.039 USD / kg, which decreased by more than 0.022 USD / kg compared to the beginning of the crop season. The reason for the drop in sugarcane prices is the rainy season as the demand for soft drinks has plummeted due to the rainy weather. In addition, due to the influence of typhoon No. 2 in early August, many sugarcane fields were damaged so the quality decreased. Although the price of sugarcane decreased, it is still profitable compared to selling raw sugarcane to the sugar mill, because farmers do not have to pay labor costs to harvest, transport costs or examines sugar reserves, etc. Therefore sugarcane growers still make profits between 258.5 - 302 USD / square kilometer, after production costs.
