The Central Government in India imposed a 10 metric tons (mt) cap for sugar shipments this season to ensure adequate domestic supply. Until September 30, many Indian exporters will ship at least 5 million mt. Forecasts indicate that the government may cap sugar exports next season at 8 mt as local demand is high.
