By the end of 2020, sugar rose in price more than any other product in Russia. According to the Federal State Statistics Service, from February 2021 to February 2020, it has risen in price by 63.97%. Therefore, earlier, the Russian government took several measures to stabilize sugar prices, including the signing of an agreement on freezing prices with major producers and retail chains. In the new season, the expansion of sugar beet sown areas by 10-15% (1.06 Mha) will help to keep sugar prices in Russia. An expected harvest of at least 40M MT will allow production of about 6M MT of sugar, which will be enough to meet the needs of the domestic market and form carryover stocks.
