Sugar prices are rising exponentially in the Pakistani market with an average selling price of PKR 100/kg when it is supposed to be sold for around PKR 60/kg as the maximum price set by the Pakistani government. Sugar is being imported in massive quantities by the Pakistani government themselves to remove any corruption. However, there still is a huge shortage in the local markets due to hoarding by the distributors. The government has decided to take strict action against the hoarders with a penalty of up to 5 years in prison.
