The Spanish sugarbeet industry is being threatened by extremely low prices imposed by multinational corporation Associated British Foods. This was noted by the COAG, a Spanish association for the promotion of the agricultural sector.

The association discovered that whilst prices of sugar increased year on year since 2015, the prices of sugarbeet dropped by nearly 26% in 2019-2020. This is now being reviewed to determine the best way to improve the conditions of producers.
