A lot of coconut suppliers in the Philippines are experimenting on producing value-added coconut or coconut juice in cans instead of selling raw coconut fruits this year 2020. This is due to the high demand for packaged and preservable coconuts from consumers due to the COVID pandemic. This is only done in the Visayas region and not necessarily the whole country. Suppliers believe that it would be more profitable for them to sell value-added coconut locally as compared to raw ones because value-added coconuts sell for on average 20% higher prices. For their international market, they remain to export raw coconut fruits because of the low production cost and the surplus of products.
