Tanzanian government putting effort to meet edible oil demand as demand surpasses the supply

The annual demand for edible oil in Tanzania exceeds the annual production rate. The demand for the edible oil right now is 5,70,000 metric ton and the production rate is 2,05,000MT. The shortage is catered by importing oil from Malaysia. The government is planning to increase the production of edible oil using a variety of oilseeds, especially sunflowers and palm oil to meet the local domestic demand in the next 5 years.
