Overall export of Thai Whole Ginger has dropped this year by around 15% compared with that of last year. This is because decreased import of Pakistan. Pakistan is the number one importer of which import value reached USD 33 million in 2020, 55% of share in total exports. In 2021, the export volume has decreased almost half due to a severe shortage of container availability to Pakistan and increase of sea freight costs. During the first ten months in 2021, the market share of Pakistani Thailand ginger import dropped to 33%, while countries including China, the Netherland, Laos and the US have experienced significant growth rates of import for this product in 2021.
