In Indonesia, the price of the areca nut is still at the lowest price level in W9. The selling price of areca nuts has dropped dramatically to only 50% of the price points of 2 years ago. The restriction on areca nut imports in India, a market for more than 80% of Indonesian areca nuts, was the cause of this decline. Areca nuts from Indonesia are subject to very high import duties in India. Exporters are pessimistic that prices will not improve in 2023. Moreover, based on the information they get from importers there, the areca production in India is expected to increase during the 2023's harvest period.
