Animal feed is a fundamental input for the production of animal protein. The feeding of animals for the production of chicken, eggs, pork, milk and meat is being affected by different factors. The main factor affecting the production of animal feed are the most used raw materials that are imported, such as corn and soybeans, which are affected by the crisis in the global logistics chain, the shortage of these products due to the war between Russia and Ukraine and the exchange rate Colombian peso - USD. Another factor is the supplements used for the manufacture of these balanced feeds, which are also affected by the aforementioned problems.
43% of the inputs used in the manufacture of these feedstuffs have registered price increases; as a reference in some parts of Colombia, a 40kg package of feedstuffs went from costing USD 19 in 2021 to costing USD 27 in 2022.
