Scientists from the Russian Federal Research Center of the Nikolai Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Genetic Resources (VIR) in 2021 intend to start developing a new compact form of Actinidia (Kiwifruit) suitable for growing in greenhouses.
Actinidia (Kiwifruit) grows on the territory of Russia in the Crimea, Krasnodar Territory and Dagestan.
The collection of Actinidia collected at VIR gives the opportunity to create new varieties of kiwi with desired properties, as well as to expand the cultivation areas of this culture, promoting it to the north of Russia. It is planned to change the architectonics of the plant, and create a variety that can grow in a greenhouse and ripen earlier than the traditional term.
