The domestic consumption of Grana Padano cheese for retail sales in Italy has dropped by 0.6%, while exports increased by 7.07%.

In 2021 the domestic consumption of Grana Padano PDO for retail sales in Italy has dropped by 0.6% due to restrictions on the opening of restaurants. On the other hand, exports increased by 7.07%. 2.2M of whole cheese forms have been sold abroad, thus the brand registers its best financial year performance of the decade (2011-2021). Among the main importers Germany leads the demand with over 590 thousand of cheese forms traded in, followed by France and the United States. To further boost consumption and strengthen brand recognition in the foreign market, additional investments on marketing and communication strategies have been adopted at the beginning of the year.
Hence, 2022 already registers an increase in price (+1.85%) of whole wheel, while demand from the foreign market remains unchanged.
