The avocado market price in Europe continues to fluctuate in W48, despite a decrease in the import volume of Chilean Hass avocados by 20% and Mexican Hass avocados by 5% compared to the 2021 season. Chile, Colombia, and Israel are the predominant origins that have begun to accelerate their exports to Europe, which are followed by Morocco. The current imbalance in the avocado market is not caused by an oversupply but by an imbalance in the distribution of sizes. Size 22ers and baby avocado stocks are still increasing, and many importers are just giving this fruit away on consignment to the French market, causing an oversupply, especially in the Rungis market. Currently, there is no longer a price for baby avocados, and no minimum price is offered.
However, for avocados of sizes between 12 and 18, the price does not drop below USD 12.66/4kg box. Despite demand from retailers, the price for a 20er size is still around USD 11.61/4 kg. This is because supermarkets have fixed prices for the season, and are not willing to pay more for them. In this way, the Hass avocado market continues to be divided in two, and only pre-Christmas sales could define the outlook for this product in 2023.
