Aside from exporting areca nuts to frequent importing countries such as India and Bangladesh, some portion of areca nuts from Indonesia has now been exported to the USA. Unlike its primary usage as a medicinal and cosmetics ingredient, the US buyers use areca nuts to be further processed in the production of wood and metal paint.

The areca nuts would usually be crushed into powder and then extracted into an essential oil, which then is mixed with other chemical ingredients. Although the export volume to the USA is still relatively small in comparison to other countries at around 125MT/year, it is still viewed as a good alternative to areca nut suppliers to market their product.
