The department of Gironde, where a large part of the Bordeaux vineyards is located, has been hit by successive frost episodes in early April. A temperature of -7 degrees was recorded during the night of Sunday 3 April to Monday 4 April in some areas, which corresponds to a month of January or February. In the vineyards, the buds were already swollen and the first leaves were out on the early plots. The buds affected superficially will be able to start again but for those affected in the heart are damaged. Wine growers have to wait at least one more week for the vine to destress and restart before knowing what impact this frost will have, but the French government has already announced on 4 April that it will support the affected farmers, as it had been especially during the frost episode of April 2021, with the implementation of an appropriate plan.
