So far in the second half of 2020, the export volume of coconut coir from Indonesia to China has been recorded at 400 MT, which is higher than the volume in the first two months in the first half of 2020 where the export volume was recorded at 250 MT. Aside from the growing demand from the overseas buyers such as the one in South Korea and China, the increasing number is also attributed to the reopening of most business in those countries and the reopening of the major trading ports after a temporal lockdown during the most part of the first half of 2020 as caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Most of the coconut coir that was exported is mostly used to make mining rope in their respective countries as coconut coir is generally viewed to be more durable and more cost-effective compared to other materials.
