Increasing Consumption of Red Onions and Red Chillies in Indonesia

The consumption of raw vegetables in Indonesia increased by 0.64% MoM and 4.94% (YoY) in July 2022. Some products that contributed to the increased consumption include red onions and red chilies, which report surging consumption of 0.10% MoM and 0.17MoM. The increasing demand plus the increasing production and transportation costs due to the rising gasoline prices due to the removal of government subsidies are creating a price increase for vegetables. Indonesia needs to increase imports of high demanded products like onions and chilies to cover local demand and control local prices.
