The Dutch market for Hayward Kiwi has been declining slowly in recent weeks. During the 2022 season, Chile exported a quarter less Hayward kiwifruit to Europe than in 2021. Additional factors have also made this season frustrating for Chilean kiwi exporters. The EUR-USD exchange rate as well as the increase in maritime freight and internal costs have negatively impacted the profitability of Chilean kiwi producers. For this reason, export volumes to Europe were reduced, expecting an improvement in the market, which has only been reflected in large sizes.

In W37, sizes 23 / 25 and 27 are sold on average at USD 23.33/10kg box, while medium sizes sell for an average of USD 20.29/10kg box. The smaller sizes do not manage to exceed USD 12.17 per box. The situation is not expected to improve because kiwis from Greece are already available in small quantities and expected to increase. The kiwi from Greece is sold at similar values to those from Chile, and most buyers are starting to change their preference to European origin kiwis. During W35 and 36, the last Chilean kiwis from controlled atmosphere chambers were shipped to Europe, mainly to existing programs, in quantities that are not expected to affect the Dutch market in a significant way.
